A visit to Kaikoura and a stay at The Factory Bed and Breakfast Kaikoura is not just about the incredible marine adventures to be had.  The community of Kaikoura has something for everyone.  

Food

There are some excellent restaurants in Kaikoura all offering freshly prepared food from local sources.  The Pier Hotel and The Green Dolphin both offer delicious food with incredible views across the water to the mountains beyond. Zephyr serves contemporary New Zealand cuisine in a stylish restaurant in the heart of Kaikoura town, Hislops is famous for its organic wholefoods and Koura Bay Lodge uses Kaikoura’s freshest local fare in their restaurant overlooking a golf course and the ocean. There are lots of wonderful cafes, hotel restaurants, food carts and take-away shops to cater for everyone’s taste. We are excited to welcome back Mama Tuti who is re-opening her famous restaurant as Mama Tuti’s takeaways.

Kaikoura is also home to the Kaikoura Cheese Company, award-winning artisan cheese makers with their retail outlet in West End.

Drink

There are two brewing companies making beer in Kaikoura, The Kaikoura Brewing Company has as their motto: “travel far drink local’ and The Emporium has a unique combination of craft brewing and an 18 hole mini-golf course.

Esses Wine is a boutique vineyard – its ‘esses’ stand for: Spectacular Sky, Snow-capped Summits, Stunning Sea, Stony Soul and Serenity. They specialise in Methode Traditionelle – the French-inspired sparkling wine.

Mountain Honey is New Zealand’s only certified organic meadery  - making mead using organic and fermented honey and aged in French oak casks.

Art

When staying at The Factory Bed and Breakfast Kaikoura you will discover there are a lot of very artistic people living in this small town. The Kaikoura Gold Art & Design Gallery is a gallery showcasing the gilt and original artwork of Brigitte and Walter Kunz and Homewood Hill Art Gallery where you can see beautiful work by the talented Karen James. Atawera Art is the home of  Mary and Greg Ashwell who are both talented across many techniques and styles, from jewellery to bone-carving, painting and carving, with Greg also internationally renowned as a tattoo artist travelling to the UK, Holland, Germany and Sweden where he exhibits his own indigenous style of tattoo art.

Shopping
